Real Time Information Blog Image

When exploring topics for this week’s blog I didn’t need to look very far.  As a team we are currently gearing up for the Eureka Solutions Away Day this weekend. As someone who usually likes to be in control of plans for my social activities, this is a challenge in itself for me. I am the kind of person who has lists about my lists, especially when it comes to going anywhere – planning what to take is all part of the fun. However, our challenge this weekend is that none of us know where we are off to. Our Team Challenge is finding our destination. What is in store? Only bribery on a massive scale will let us in on the information and all attempts seem to be failing at the moment. So it does look like we need to be patient and just be prepared for anything this weekend.

What parallels can we draw from our Team Challenge and the business challenges I have been analysing in my recent blogs? Is your business prepared for any challenge?

Let’s begin with a series of questions.

How organised are you in your approach to work and life?

Are you the kind of person who needs to know every detail and be in control of everything at all times?

Do you get stressed by the chaos that can be created by a lack of information and detail?

If your answers to the above were very followed by yes and yes then read on as this blog is ideal for you.

What I have described above is a typically organised person with a high attention to detail. The type of person who knows where to find any given piece of information when required. They are also likely to be the type of person who, when working under chaotic circumstances would feel totally removed from their comfort zone. In an ideal world, organised people would be working in organised conditions. However, we don’t always work in an ideal world and it is very likely that even those who consider themselves to be highly organised will be working in chaos at times.  Is that you? An organised person working with chaos all around you?

I have written in my blogs recently about organisations that have grown to such an extent that old, outdated business information systems no longer meet their business requirements and indeed, in many cases are hindering their business. In those circumstances, what do highly organised people do? I am sure they cope as their natural organisation skills come to the fore but it isn’t easy feeling that slight loss of control, not knowing day to day that they have the relevant information required to function effectively.

Putting robust business systems and processes in place helps your staff in their daily job functions. It organises their workload and ensures they have access to accurate and relevant data in real time.

What would that mean for you in your operations?

The functions of marketing, sales and finance benefit from this in the form of lead generation, sales and cashflow into the business. These functions need to communicate and have a seamless flow of information feeding from one to the other. This leads to an effective process that goes from lead generation – to closing a sale – to ensuring the cash comes in. The typical flow of lead – order – cash.

If this information flow is not happening, it is likely that each of these functions have developed into their own silos, aren’t communicating and are often working from separate business systems. If that is the case it really doesn’t matter how organised a person is because the information at their fingertips is not shared across the other functions.  The key to the effectiveness of the communication flow is real time information and access to that information. That is achieved by implementing one business information system that can be accessed from any device, from anywhere at any time. Real time availability of data is a massive benefit for all areas of an organisation.  Read more on how this real time information flow across your key operational functions can benefit your organisation by downloading our Business Challenges White Paper.

Some real time information would certainly come in useful during our Team Challenge this weekend.
